CRANE HILL - The fall Smith Lake Cleanup organized by Winston County Smith Lake Advocacy Inc. and Alabama Power's Renew Our Rivers program will be Thursday and Friday, Sept. 12-13, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help remove trash from the water and shorelines of Rock, White Oak and Crooked creeks.
The cleanup crews will launch from a boat ramp on the King Boat Docks property, 202 County Road 4007, Crane Hill, Ala. By water, the boat ramp is about a mile north of Rock Creek Marina at 34 degrees 02 minutes 11 seconds north latitude and 87 degrees 07 minutes 43 seconds west longitude. By road, from County Road 4006, turn onto Winston County Road 222. At the fork in the road, stay left and follow the gravel road to the boat ramp.
Alabama Power will provide pontoon boats, trash bags and trash grabbers for the cleanup. Bring your own life vest if possible; if you do not have one, one will be provided. You may bring your own boat or join a team on one of Alabama Power's boats.
Lunch will be provided following the cleanup by Alabama Power's Curry office.
