Bishop’s superintendent contract approved


The contract for Dr. Bill Bishop was approved as new superintendent for Haleyville City Schools, as well as naming now-former interim superintendent Candy Garner as HCS consultant.

HALEYVILLE - The contract for new Haleyville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Bill Bishop has been approved by the Haleyville Board of Education, meaning he will take over the role in November, with interim superintendent Candy Garner moving into a consulting role.
At its regular meeting Monday, Oct. 20, the board voted unanimously to approve Bishop’s contract as superintendent effective November 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028. 
All board members voted in favor, including Donna Jones, Board President Beth McAlpine, Brian “Thumper” Vickery, Chad Tidwell and Boo Haughton. 
Bishop’s annual salary as superintendent will be $155,000, according to Bishop.
The board voted unanimously in a separate vote to approve Garner’s transition from interim superintendent to consultant for Haleyville City Schools, effective November 1, 2025, in conjunction with the starting date listed on Bishop’s superintendent contract.
Garner will remain as a consultant until the end of her contract period, which is December, school officials confirmed.
