HALEYVILLE - The City of Haleyville and the Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce have literally provided some seed money, to help form a gardening or beautification committee, which plans to spruce up areas of downtown, as well as the welcome signs with flowers and landscaping.
The public, in time, should start seeing more flowers and landscaping in the city thanks to the new committee, which has an invitation to partner with the Winston County Cooperative Extension Service in the project.
The city provided $750 toward the efforts of the new beautification committee, with the Chamber of Commerce also providing $500 to the efforts, city and chamber officials said.
“I think it’s something a lot of people are interested in,” noted committee member Will Walker, when addressing the Friday, March 6, meeting of the Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce.
“I’ve had several people who have talked to me about it and I’ve talked to some people,” Walker added. “I think it is something that will help beautify our city.
“Where this goes, I don’t know, but if you take a little money and some people with a passion for beautification, gardening and planting, it can be something everybody in the city can enjoy,” Walker further told chamber members.
The new gardening or beautification committee is planning an organizational meeting on Tuesday, March 24, at 5:30 p.m. at Haleyville City Hall, Walker noted.
