ARLEY - The Arley Public Library has a new visitor...who is very, very large.
A floor-to=ceiling dinosaur skeleton replica is now calling the first floor of the Arley Public Library home, after a several hundred mile journey.  Arley Librarian Jennifer Stewart’s husband, Jason, was in Laurel, Miss., as part of his job as director of IT operations for BankFirst recently.  While searcing for a wiring closet in the Laurel BankFirst branch, Jason came upon this prehistoric prize!
Jason knew the dinosaur replica would fit in perfectly with the Arley Public Library’s summer reading program this year, whic will kick off June 1.  This year’s theme is “Unearth a Story.”  After checking with BankFirst’s Laurel Branch President Jameson Buckley, Jason received permission to take the dinosaur home to Arley, a 225-mile journey, according to Google Maps.
The dinosaur is now proudly on display in the Arley Library and will be there to greet all children participating in this year’s sumemr reading program, which will begin Monday, June 1.   Participants can visit the library anytime Monday-Friday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to take part in the self-paced activities and weekly challenges, all with the goal of earning a spot at the program finale, which will take place Wednesday, July 8, at La Plaza Bonita Restaurant in Arley.  T-shirts will be given away to the children who make it to the finale.  Children will also be provided with a delicious Mexican lunch and will receive a special visit from Mr. Larry the Magician.
To learn more about this year’s summer reading program and to register, call the Arley Library at (205) 387-0129.
