DOUBLE SPRINGS - More personnel decisions, in the form of non-renewals, a termination, as well as a transfer and hirings have been made by the Winston Board of Education in preparation for a new school year starting in August.
The board met in regular session Thursday, May 21, to vote on several personnel items, with more personnel items possibly to be approved at an upcoming meeting, confirmed Winston County Schools Superintendent Jeff Scott.
“There could still be a few more changes before the next board meeting,” Scott noted. “There are still some things we’re working through.
The following non-renewals were approved by the board: Meagan Wynn as teacher at Double Springs Elementary and Mackenzie Kitchens as paraprofessional at Double Springs Middle School.
Donna Harbison was terminated by the board as maid at Meek Schools effective May 21, due to job abandonment, according to the board agenda.
The following resignations were approved: Jazmine Johnson as teacher at Addison Elementary, effective May 22; Sharon Bell as paraprofessional at Lynn Elementary effective May 21, and Amy Aaron as teacher at Lynn Elementary, effective May 22.
Mattie Rice was transferred from teacher at Addison Elementary to teacher at Addison High School, effective August 3.
The following personnel were hired: Justin Cornelius as AHS teacher; Cynthia Hamby and Samantha Crooks as AES teachers; Brandon Millican and Dr. Timothy Wilcox as Winston County High School teachers; Bobby Everett as bus driver in Addison; Kyle Bolton as bus driver in Double Springs and Whitney Webb as bus driver in Haleyville.
Each of these hirings will be effective August 3, according to the board.
“We had some resignations and people leaving us,” Scott explained.
“We want to wish those that’s leaving us nothing but the best and thank them for their years of service working with our students. There’s no doubt they have had a lasting impact on our students. I feel like we’ve got some good quality people coming in. We look forward to having them a part of the Winston County school family.”
“We’re getting everything ready,” said Boteler. “We hope everybody has a good summer and we’ll get started in August, ready to go.”
Among regular board business, the board approved the following payroll dates for employees: 2026: July 31, August 31, Sept. 30, Oct. 30, Nov. 20, Dec. 18;
2027: Jan. 29, Feb. 26, March 31, April 30, May 21, June 30.
Accounts payable were $920,688.66; payroll: $2,451,579.78 for total expenditures of $3,372,268.44, with the board also approving April financial reports.
