HALEYVILLE - Governor Kay Ivey’s recent announcement of $365,158 in Appalachian Regional Commission funds to drastically improve broadband internet coverage in rural Alabama is  good news for Bear Creek and Haleyville.

Tombigbee Electric Cooperative, based in Hamilton, will use $200,000 of the grant funds to purchase and install two nodes, which will distribute data communications through 119 miles of new fiber optic cable in Bear Creek and Haleyville.

“Broadband availability is becoming vital to commerce, emergency services, health care and other essential services in all parts of Alabama,” Ivey said.
