DOUBLE SPRINGS - Twelve brand new 2020 model school buses have been purchased by the Winston County Board of Education and is set to arrive by the beginning of the next school year. The news was announced at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
While all current school buses are safe, the biggest difference for the new buses is the fact they have air conditioning, Superintendent Greg Pendley said.
“All of them are safe,” assured Pendley. “They are all certified every year. The new buses come installed with ZONAR...and come with additional cameras. They have a couple of cameras that are additional within the cabin itself.” They will ride better, and they are air conditioned.
One of the new locations for the cameras is the extending arm for stops.
The new buses were purchased from Transportation South in the amount of $1,059,588. The latest delivery date will be June 2019, according to Pendley.
The Winston County Board of Education maintains 64 qualifying bus routes.
