New equipment helps Double Springs FD save lives

The new set of Jaws of Life purchased for the department features the strongest technology in both cutting and spreading devices, as shown here by Fire Chief Allen Ward, left, and Lt. Erik Gilbreath.

DOUBLE SPRINGS    - The Double Springs Fire Department is ready to roll with new equipment that will greatly benefit them, especially fighting fires in more rural areas.
The department was able to acquire a 2000 E-One 1,500 gallon firetruck with only 15,994 miles, thanks to $130,000 from the city’s general fund, enabling them to put a much needed truck on the road responding to motor vehicle accidents, according to Lt. Erik Gilbreath of the fire department.
In fact, the new truck will be the first out of the fire station to a MVA, the second out the door to a structure fire, Gilbreath stated.
