HELICON - Ivonell McCormick Sellers grew up in Helicon, went to school there, left for near Chicago with her parents when she was thirteen, met and married a fellow Heliconite and eventually moved back home.
Sellers went to school at Helicon from first through fifth grades, sixth grade at Crane Hill, then seventh and part of eighth grade in Meek when she and her family moved to Harvey, Illinois. Sellers met her future husband, James Sellers, in Harvey. When he had 10 years of work in a Ford plant, he wanted to move back home. They proceeded to do just that and raised their family back in the hills of Northwest Alabama.
Growing up, Sellers lived in the Mt. Zion community between Crane Hill and Helicon.
