WCSHoF banquet is Saturday: WCHS inductees recognized

HALEYVILLE - The annual Winston County Sports Hall of Fame will be held Saturday, July 20, at the Haleyville Elementary School cafetorium. Tickets are $20 for the steak dinner and may be purchased at the branches of Traders and Farmers Bank or at the door.
Tony Giles, the “Voice of the Crimson Tide” at Bryant-Denny Stadium and Coleman Coliseum, will be the master of ceremonies. The keynote speaker will be Tyler Watts, former Alabama quarterback.
The following are the inductees from Winston County High School  High School:

Shawn Blanton participated in football at Winston County High School from 1990-92; basketball 1991-1993 and track from 1988 - 1993.
In football, he was named the Most Valuable Defensive Back in 1992; team captain, 1991. He was named to the Northwest Alabamian All-Star team as a defensive back in 1992-93 and Eagle Elite football team in 1992-93; All County in 1991-92 and All-Area in 1992.
His basketball honors included Most Valuable Player, 1992-93; team captain, 1992-93; Best Defensive Player 1992-93; Best Rebounder 1992-93; All County 1991-92, 1992-93.

Thomas Lester’s honors includes:
All County basketball 1975-76;
All Conference football team 1975;
Alabama State All Star baseball 1976;
All County baseball 1976;
All County B-Team basketball 1974-75;
All County freshman basketball 1973-74;
Member of four county basketball championships from 1972 through 1976;
Member  of county baseball championships 1976;
Team captain football team 1975;
Team captain basketball team 1975-76;
Team captain baseball team 1976;
Malcolm Blake Award for Outstanding Football Player 1975; Varsity Basketball Leadership Player Award 1976;
Excellence in Physical Education Award 1976.
He participated in football five years, 1971, 72, 73, 74 and 76; basketball, 1971-76; baseball team two years, 1972 and 1976, member of track team in 1976.
He was a member of the W-Club six years, varsity football team manager in 1972 and 1973 and varsity basketball team manager in 1972 and 1973.

Ronnie Robinson played varsity football 1985-1987. He was named All County in 1986-87 and All Area in 1987.
