Human remains found in burned home

DOUBLE SPRINGS  - First responders were not dispatched in their typical manner recently to a single wide manufactured home  burned during the night, only discovering that the occupant was dead, after extensive debris was removed first.
“The body was burned beyond recognition,” noted Winston County Deputy Coroner Don Dimond.  
The name of the deceased has not been officially released, pending official identification by the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, which is performing an autopsy.  However, authorities reported that Terrell Blake had been living at the residence, and Blake did pass away on Friday, Feb. 19, according to his obituary through Nichols Funeral Home.   Blake, who was 54 at the time of his death, also matches the description of the person listed as passing in the fire on the state fire marshal’s website, a 54-year-old white male.
Dimond pronounced death at 12:55  p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, with the body removed from the debris by the Winston County Coroner’s Office, deputies with the Winston County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the state fire marshal’s office, Dimond said.  The body was transported to the coroner’s office, where it was picked up by officials with the Alabama Department of Forensic Science and taken for autopsy to determine identification and cause of death, Dimond noted.
The case is under active investigation by the Winston County District Attorney’s Office, working with the state fire marshal’s office.
