Public meeting regarding upcoming redistricting Sept. 15 in Hanceville

WINSTON COUNTY - The Alabama Legislature is constitutionally required to draw new congressional and state legislative distrct boundaries the year after a census is taken, and public hearings are being held across the state so residents can make their voices heard on how these lines should be drawn.
The closest meeting to the Alabamian’s coverage area will be Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. in the auditorium at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.   The meeting is open to anyone in the public who is interested in attending.  Persons can also attend remotely via Microsoft’s Teams software. Information on how to join the meeting via this software will be published on the committee’s website, www.legislature.state.al.us/aliswww.
Currently Winston County has two state senators, Garlan Gudger and Greg Reed, and three state representatives, Tracy Estes, Proncey Robertson and Tim Wadsworth.  
Gudger serves roughly the northern third of Winston County, including Haleyville and Addison, along with all of Cullman County, portions of eastern Marion County and the southern portions of Lawrence County.
Reed serves the southern half of Winston County, including Double Springs, Arley, Lynn and Natural Bridge, all of Walker County, all of Fayette County the western portion of Jefferson County and northern Tuscaloosa County.
Estes serves southern Haleyville, Delmar, Natural Bridge and Double Springs in Winston County, along with all of Marion County and northern and portions of eastern Lamar County.
Robertson serves northern Haleyville and the Pebble community in Winston County.  He also serves southern Lawrence County, eastern Franklin County and portions of the northwest tip of Morgan County.
Wadsworth serves the majority of Winston County, along with northwest Walker County, down the western side of the county and the southern portion of Walker County and a sliver of Jefferson County.
None of Winston County’s legislative delegation is serving on the reapportionment committee.  The committee is comprised of 14 Republican members and 6 Democrats.
