$2 million coming for Helicon Road

ARLEY - An agreement has been reached between the Alabama Department of Transportation and Winston County Commission, approving $2 million in state monies to resurface County Road 77, otherwise known as Helicon Road, from County Road 41 in Arley to County Road 22 in Helicon.

Area bands receive budget boosts

State Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger, who represents the fourth district, has given $5,000 community service grants to every high school band in the district, including those in Winston County and Bear Creek, contributing a total of $90,000 to 18 music programs.
He and his team, including Director of Constituent Affairs Randall Shedd, spent all of Monday, Sept. 8, traveling Cullman, Marion and Winston counties to present checks to the majority of the band programs, a few having received theirs previously.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - State Senator Garlan Gudger - who is recovering from major injuries suffered in a jet ski accident this summer - made his first speaking appearance since the accident Monday, Sept. 30, to celebrate over $119,000 in funding for projects across Winston County.

LAKESHORE - The mission of getting state funds into rural Alabama is literally paying off a big way, with state legislators going to bat for Winston County, securing nearly $2 million from the Education Trust Fund for two major projects related to education and tourism.

CULLMAN - In an effort to connect all Alabamians to high-speed internet, Governor Kay Ivey joined forces with Cullman Electric Co-op and state legislators to announce a $7 million project for parts of Winston, Cullman, Lawrence and Morgan counties on Monday, Dec. 2.
