DOUBLE SPRINGS - Residents are coming from not just Winston but surrounding counties to get their COVID-19 vaccinations on a walk-up basis, forming long lines stretching into the parking lot and around the sides of the Winston County Health Department, without having an appointment.
WINSTON COUNTY - Walmart Pharmacy at the Haleyville store is among the locations of Walmarts which began administering the COVID-19 vaccines on Friday, Feb. 12.

WINSTON COUNTY - Although health officials are stressing the safety of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, which is now being offered in Winston County, some first responders are approaching the vaccine with reservation.
HALEYVILLE - With COVID-19 vaccines finally making it into the arms of local healthcare workers and first responders, residents are wanting to learn more about the vaccine itself.
WINSTON COUNTY - After a year of restlessness and uncertainty, several companies have been successful in their race for a COVID-19 vaccine, with the first rounds of shots being distributed to those who are on the front lines battling the virus, such as health care workers.
WINSTON COUNTY - Although the Capstone Clinic in Double Springs shares a facility with the Winston County Health Department, they did not receive COVID-19 vaccines to administer in round one as did the health department, according to Capstone Executive Director and Nurse Practitioner David Jones.

HALEYVILLE - Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville received a shipment of the Moderna vaccine late last week, with the first shots given out to physicians and other healthcare workers Monday, Dec. 28. Lakeland plans to continue to administer the Moderna vaccine throughout the week, and have turned the hospital board room into the site where the vaccines will be administered. The Alabamian will have much more about the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccines in next week’s edition.
AUBURN - An Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine assistant professor, Dr. Constantinos Kyriakis, will soon commence testing of new vaccine candidates that could offer protection against COVID-19 and help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
BIRMINGHAM - The University of Alabama at Birmingham is launching a collaboration with the biopharmaceutical company Altimmune, Inc. for pre-clinical testing of a potential vaccine to prevent COVID-19 disease.
