Local students make Samford dean’s list

BIRMINGHAM - Samford University named the following local students to the dean's list for the spring 2025 semester.
Lauren Smith, of Crane Hill, English major;
Dayton Roberts, of Addison, law and history major;
Abigail Tidwell, of Double Springs, undeclared major taking a pre-pharmacy curriculum;
Tyler Clark, of Haleyville, international relations major;
Mia Edens, of Houston, architecture major. 

Addison Lady Bulldogs state champs

BIRMINGHAM - Addison High School’s Lady Bulldogs posted a 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 victory over Orange Beach High School Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham to claim the school’s 13th state title at the Alabama High School Athletic Association's 51st State Volleyball Championships.

Federal jury convicts Haleyville couple for transporting illegal aliens, money laundering

BIRMINGHAM - A federal jury convicted a husband and wife Tuesday, Oct. 12, for transporting illegal aliens to provide labor for a local chicken plant, announced U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent-in-Charge Katrina W. Berger.
