Brannon wins six agricultural professional awards

WINSTON COUNTY - This year, Zach Brannon, Winston County Extension Coordinator, has been honored by the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA), the Alabama Association of County Agricultural Agents and Specialists (AACAAS) and the Alabama Farmers Federation.

NACAA presented Brannon with a 2022 Achievement Award. These awards “recognize excellence in the field of professional Extension.” They are the highest honor an agent with less than ten years of experience in the field can receive from both NACAA and AACAAS.

AACAAS also recognized Brannon with its own 2022 Achievement Award.
He also received an AACAAS Communication Award in the Event Promotional Package category. Communication Awards recognize “members who excel in communicating programs and ideas to their clientele.” Brannon and co-author T. Paul Vining won for their promotion of the “Graziers Toolbox and Seed Drill Demonstrations: Hands-on Forage Management Workshops” that the Winston and Colbert County Extension Offices conducted in 2021.

Brannon and co-author Kerri Roberts won an AACAAS 2022 Search of Excellence Award in the 4-H Programming Category “for developing and implementing an outstanding extension educational program” for 4-H’ers and other youth. The program for which they won was the 2021 virtual FAWN program, which they created with help from the U.S. Forest Service and the Alabama Forestry Commission and made available to schools in Marion and Winston counties. “Over 600 teachers and students joined in the virtual experience that included (videos and lessons on) prescribed burn, wildland fire, Alabama Native American Heritage, macroinvertebrates, wildlife and honeybees,” according to the abstract submitted to AACAAS.

Brannon was also the second runner-up for the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 2022 Excellence in Agriculture award
