GLEN ALLEN - On December 13, 1745, in Amelia County, Va., a great patriot was born. His parents named him George, and so a great lineage began which is carried on through proud descendants of this honorable man -George Tucker, Sr.
Lt. George Tucker served his country in the American Revolution and fought in several battles and skirmishes, one of which was the the Battle at Cowpens. He filed for his pension in 1832 at the age of 88 and was awarded $43 per annum for his service while living in Marion County.
George Tucker lived another 18 years and died at the ripe old age of 106. He has left a long line of descendants, and once a year the George Tucker Patriot Descendants Association holds a reunion to this great patriot at Hopewell Cemetery, where George is buried.
The George Tucker Patriot Descendants reunion will be held at Hopewell Cemetery near Glen Allen in Fayette County on Saturday, May 20, with registration beginning at 9:30am and lunch at noon. Please bring a covered dish or two, folding chairs, genealogy and family photos. In case of inclement weather, an alternate site will be procured.
A business meeting will follow lunch and a genealogy session following the reunion will be held at the home of George Tucker Patriot Descendants Association President Jeanette Herron. Everyone is invited to attend this patriotic annual event.
To get to Hopewell Cemetery, turn south off of U.S. 78 onto Highway 129 at the Glen Allen sign two miles east of downtown Winfield and travel two miles to the Glen Allen Post Office. Stay left onto Highway 233 and continue about 3/4 mile and turn right. In 1 mile, you will see the Hopewell Cemetery sign, where you will turn left. The cemetery is about 500 feet on the left.
