BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - A free youth fishing derby for ages 5-12 will be held in celebration of National Get Outdoors Day Saturday, June 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Black Warrior Work Center, located 15 miles north of Double Springs on Highway 33 in the Bankhead National Forest.
The derby is being hosted by the U.S. Forest Service, Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries and many local partners.
Participants must be supervised by a parent or guardian and must bring their own bait and tackle for catfish.
There will be additional free activities and food.
