DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Peacemakers' Quilt Guild will hold its annual quilt show at various locations in Double Springs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.
One of the locations is the Little Block Building, which is curated by the Double Springs Study Club, a sponsor of the show.
"We love (the Little Rock Building)," said Glynnis Posey of the study club. "Several years ago we started decorating it for the seasons. A lot of the club women really, really worked on it.
"It was built in 1917," she noted. "When you come into town, that's one of the first things you see. Right now, it's just very colorful. Can't anybody miss it."
At the time, the building was decorated with a yellow garland and yellow school bus signs reading "Welcome back, yellow buses!" for the start of school. Local merchants were also displaying the signs, which were painted by elementary school students and members of the study club.
"A little girl, Jada Adams, thought up that idea for us," Posey said.
This year, the quilts of Janie Walton of Florence will be showcased at the Little Rock Building. "She is a very good quilter, and she's quilted a lot," said Posey.
Quilts owned by Angela Tidwell will be displayed at Southern Furniture.
The Winston Baptist Association (WBA) will feature the quilts of the Peacemakers as well as a display of antique quilts. There will also be some quilts for sale in a designated room at this location, with 10 percent of the proceeds going to the WBA.
Posey encouraged other merchants to display quilts, as well.
"If anyone wants to show their quilts, we'll find a place for them," she added, assuring, "The quilts are taken care of."
To display quilts or have them displayed in your business, contact Posey at (205) 489-6205.
Those attending the show should visit the Little Rock Building first to learn of any additional locations to visit. They can also sign in at each location to be entered into a drawing.
