City Fest Saturday

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Community Unity's eighth annual City Fest will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in downtown Double Springs.
The day begins at 7 a.m., though, with a pancake breakfast fundraiser for Addie's Place Child Advocacy Center at Warehouse 195 Venue and Event Co., 25215 Highway 195, in downtown Double Springs.

A $5 plate comes with three pancakes, sausage and a drink. The breakfast will continue as long as there is demand or until supplies run out.
Meanwhile, City Fest will bring live music, a kid zone and at least 50 vendors, including several food trucks, to town.

Pancake breakfast for Addie’s Place

Kerri Lewis, an Addie's Place board member and one of the organizers of Community Unity and City Fest, is sponsoring the breakfast.
Knowing Addie's Place needed another fundraiser this year, Lewis had the idea to hold a pancake breakfast on the morning of City Fest when vendors would be setting up for the festival.
Lewis has not been alone in sponsoring the breakfast.
Tuesday Reed of Warehouse 195 donated the space for the breakfast. Lewis expressed her gratitude for that generosity with "a big thank-you" to Reed.
"I reached out to the community via Facebook, and the community showed up, showed out and sent in all the donations for the items that we needed: the pancake mix, the coffee, the butter, syrup and plates," Lewis said.
Some local businesses also donated items, including Woodmen Life (Zak and Brittney Green) and Chef Troy's Talk of the Town.
"A profound thank-you to the community at large just for their support to our center and the work that we do," said Kayren Howton of Addie's Place. "Our center would not be able to provide the services that we provide without the help of our community and people like Kerri Lewis and the Greens and Chef Troy and the people that have bought in and that have a passion for helping children."
The mission of the non-profit Addie’s Place is, working with law enforcement and the Department of Human Resources, to provide forensenic interviews and counseling in a neutral environment to abused children in Winston and Marion counties.
Festival activities

At least 50 vendors with a variety of wares will be at City Fest.
For children, the kid zone will offer inflatables and a "Farmer for a Day" experience provided by the Winston County Extension Office and Winston County Soil and Water Conservation.
"Our booth will offer kids the chance to engage in hands-on farm activities and even 'milk' a cow, giving them a taste of farm life," said the Extension Office in a statement.
Some of the food trucks that will be dishing up their best for festival goers are Little Mama's, Mama E's, Sappy Q and Green Top BBQ. Green Top will be donating a portion of its proceeds from City Fest to Henryfield FCM Church in support of its upcoming group trip to The Ark Encounter in Kentucky.
Also, downtown eatery Vincent's Deli and the coffee shop The Groovy Brew will be open during City Fest; both have added special Saturday hours for the event, said Community Unity organizer Crystal Till.
The band Self Inflicted Wound will perform from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. between BankFirst and Sipsey Vineyard and Winery, giving festival goers the chance to relax and tuck into some lunch while enjoying the music.
"We're looking forward to our eighth annual City Fest," said Till.
