HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville City Council kicked off 2025 with a full agenda for their first meeting of the year, Monday, Jan. 6.
With all members present, the first order of business was revising the fall paving project to omit a portion of 14th Avenue near Meadowlark subdivision from the fall paving project. Mayor Ken Sunseri told council members that the inspection of the city’s water pipes to make sure none of them contain lead is still ongoing, and the area at Meadowlark must still be completed.
“I think there are about 28 houses along there that have to be inspected to make sure they don’t have the lead goose lines,” Sunseri said.
If the area is paved before the survey is conducted in this area, the paving would have to be redone.
Therefore, the council approved resolution 2025-01 deducting milling and resurfacing work along 14th Avenue from 20th Street South to Meadowlark subdivision from the project at a cost savings of $63,550. The area that will not be paved adds up to approximately 1,500 linear feet long by 20-feet wide.
