Haleyville man captures heavenly image in Double Springs sky

Rickie Carter, of Haleyville, captured the above image with his cell phone of what appears to be a figure in the eastern sky of Double Springs at daybreak February 18. For Carter and many others who have seen the image, the figure within the circle reminds them of Jesus. (Courtesy photo)

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Rickie Carter, of Haleyville, was at his job in Double Springs early Tuesday morning, February 18,  when he saw an amazing sight in the eastern sky.
Carter, who works as an escort driver, was waiting in the parking lot of Winston Home Builders in Double Springs for the manufactured home he would be escorting that day when he saw something in the clouds that caught his interest.  Carter pulled out his phone and took a photo of it, which confirmed his thoughts:  It looked like Jesus!
The photo, which Carter shared with the Alabamian, shows a beautiful view of the eastern sky at sunrise, the sun beginning to shine brightly through the clouds.  At the bottom of the cloud deck to the left, there appears to be a human-like formation within the cloud.
Carter immediately felt awe and joy when he saw it and had a co-worker and fellow escort driver nicknamed Bobcat to come look, as well, to help confirm for him what he was seeing.
“We were watching 10-15 minutes.  The more we watched, the more lifelike it became,”  Carter said.  “I was saying, Wow, Wow!”
As the sun continued to rise, the lifelike formation disappeared.
Carter is thoroughly convinced he was seeing his Savior Jesus Christ in the clouds, and has been sharing the photo he took with others, bringing joy to friends and strangers alike.
Carter has been recalling passages in the Bible that reference Jesus’ upcoming return, including Matthew 24:27, “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be,” as well as Revelation 1:7, which reads, “Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him.”  Daniel 7:13-14 also refers to seeing someone like the Son of Man coming with clouds of heaven.
Carter knows the Bible states in Matthew 24:36-38 that, “No one knows the day or the hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father,” when Jesus will return.  However, the vision in the clouds has brought him joy and made him think on the joy that will come on that day when Jesus does return, a joy Carter is now passing on to others, which Carter believes is all part of God’s great plan.
