Wallace McCoy "Coy" Martin

Wallace McCoy "Coy" Martin passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Hendrix Health and Rehabilitation in Double Springs.

He was born on April 26, 1944, to Wallace and Nettie Martin. Coy was an active 50 plus year member of Pine Grove Church of God where he worked as a youth Sunday school teacher, men's fellowship, YWEA World Missions and in his later years, the senior citizens group.

Coy loved to sing in the choir at Pine Grove. He and his wife Mary once traveled to Haiti on a World Missions trip. Coy also enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and people. His motto was "Love God and Love People." He was a hard worker and he always provided for his family. Coy enjoyed making people laugh and was famous for playing the role of "Shorty Sam" and singing the song "Elvira" with his bluegrass friends.

His funeral was held Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Pine Grove Church of God in Double Springs with TJ Millican and Brother Raymond Stewart officiating. The burial took place in Fairview Cemetery in Double Springs.

Coy is survived by his daughter, Wanda (Bob) Wilder; granddaughter, Lauren (Jesman) Wilder; great grandchildren, Andrea Devia, Nico Devia, and Isa Devia; sister, Sharon (Keith) Robins; special adopted daughter, Connie Minor; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Martin; parents, Wallace and Nettie Martin; brother, J.O. Martin, L.T. Martin, Harold Martin; and "baby", Timothy Wayne Martin.
