DOUBLE SPRINGS - Long-time teachers with a combined experience between 150-200 years have announced their retirement from Winston County Schools, creating adjustments for the board of education as it prepares for a new school year in August.
The Winston County Board of Education approved a lengthy list of retirements and resignations at the board’s regular meeting Monday, April 6.
The following retirements were approved by the board: Amy Gilliland as teacher at Addison Elementary and Addison High; Dalina Hunter as AHS teacher, Tommy Seymore as AHS teacher, Kathy Mullican, Double Springs Middle School teacher;
Blaine Wakefield, DSMS teacher, Rachel Sue Pruett, paraprofessional at DSMS.
Each of these retirements will be effective on June 1, board members approved.

The board also approved the following resignations: JoBeth Montgomery as  Double Springs Elementary custodian, effective May 21, and Lane King as Lynn Elementary teacher, effective April 15.
“Most of them tonight are long-time employees who are retiring,” explained Winston County Schools Superintendent Jeff Scott.
“We greatly appreciate their service and the time they have devoted to the students here in Winston County,” Scott added.  “They have left a lasting impact on them.  There will be things the students will remember that they taught them for the rest of their lives. We wish them well in their retirement.”
“We appreciate all the work, the service and the dedication they have put in over the years,” added Board President Joey Boteler.  “We wish them well in their retirement or whatever they are going to do next in life. We thank them for all the time they had with us.”
Scott noted the school board will be working on personnel items over the next few months, making sure positions are filled for a new school year.
“When you lose good people like this, you are always a little anxious on whether or not you can replace those people with good people,” Scott stated.
“Hopefully, we will have some good ones to come along and pick up where these have left off and keep us moving in the right direction,” Scott added.
“It will be busy from now basically until school starts back, trying to get everybody in place” Scott noted.
Among other business, the board approved the sale of the following equipment from the Child Nutrition Program: two cabinet warmers to Blaine Wakefield for $25 each, and one stainless steel table to Chris Wright for $20.
The board also approved the disposal of the following CNP equipment: a 240-volt fryer and a 208-volt fryer.
The following overnight trips were approved by the  board: Addison High School to attend DECA competition April 24-29, in Atlanta, Ga., and Winston Career Academy to attend FCCLA National Leadership Conference July 3-10, in Washington, D.C.
The Winston County Board of Education is planning two more meetings this month, one on Tuesday, April 14, at 6 p.m. at the Winston Career Academy in Double Springs.
The next meeting after that will be on Tuesday, April 23, at 6 p.m. at Meek High School in Arley, which will continue at 7:30 p.m. the same evening at Addison High School,  board members agreed.
