Larry Edward Nix, 77, of Phil Campbell, passed away Monday, December 22, 2025. Larry was a longtime, faithful member of First Baptist Church in Phil Campbell. He cared deeply about the children and youth ministries, volunteering his time driving the church bus for Wednesday evening youth activities, serving meals for the Awana program, helping with the annual VBS program (including dressing up in whatever silly costume was required to entertain the kids) and volunteering with the annual Jesus Cares ministry to serve the community. He was a Sunday School teacher, devoted husband and father, and a friend to all.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his larger-than-life personality, his constant willingness to help others, his love for storytelling, deer hunting and Alabama football. He was a proud grandfather who enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all of their activities. He gave countless hours serving others with a big smile on his face and an even bigger heart for showing the love of Jesus to others.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Melvin J.C. Nix; his mother, Joel Marie Nix and his brother Christopher Melvin Nix.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Judy Nix; daughter, Leslie (Ryan); stepson, Bryan James; grandchildren Michael Hollimon, Jade James, Connor Dorr, Spencer Dorr, Graycen Dorr and Hattie Dorr; brother, Vic Nix (Pam); sister, Deb Hamrick (Eddie); sister-in-law, Sue Kimbrough; one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Phil Campbell, with his funeral following at 1 p.m. Family will serve as pallbearers. Pinkard Funeral Home will direct.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donations to Jesus Cares, Wednesday Evening Meal or VBS funds at First Baptist Church, Phil Campbell, or to the American Heart Association.
