Haleyville applies for grant for welcome center

HALEYVILLE - The City of Haleyville is hoping that a $457,000 Community Block Development Grant will be made available by U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt to purchase and renovate a building for a welcome center, meeting area and additional restrooms for the Heart of Haleyville Park.
The City of Haleyville is applying for the fiscal year 2027 grant that would  be used toward renovations of the vacant building on Main Street, to provide restroom facilities, a public meeting area and to repair an ongoing drainage issue at the building, Mayor Dr. Ray Boshell said at the Tuesday, March 3, council meeting.
If approved, the grant requires a 10 percent match, which will come from the city, Harbin explained.
The match will only apply to the amount of funding the city spends on the project, Boshell stated.
“You estimate high so you make sure you get everything you need,” Boshell explained.
“For Fiscal Year 2027, Congressman Aderholt is opening up the grant process,” explained City Clerk Christy Harbin. “That money has not been approved yet, but hopefully later in the year the money will be approved.
Council Member Brian Berry made a motion to make application for the federal funding, with Todd Barton seconding the motion. All council members present voted in favor included Berry, Todd Barton, Colton Corum, Cade Lewis and Boshell.  Absent from the meeting was Council Member Boo Brooks.
This council vote approved Resolution 2026-07, authorizing an application for  Aderholt’s FY 2027 Community Project Funding.
