ARLEY - The Arley Women’s Club has kicked off a multi-phase recycling program that will hopefully lead to grant funding for a countywide recycling effort.
The concept of the new program was presented by the women’s club to Arley Mayor Chris Tyree and town council members about using town-owned land behind the vacant former water building on Helicon Road to place a 30-yard bin where recyclable items such as plastic, cans, paper and cardboard can be collected by volunteers.
The recycling program is currently not open for public collection, but will be expanded to the public as the program progresses, according to women’s club members.
The women’s club, with many members living along Smith Lake, have fought the major problem of litter in the area, literally trashing roadways and even the lake. This has led to their passion to form a meaningful recycling program, they said.
