Haleyville First United Methodist welcomes new pastor

HALEYVILLE - Haleyville First United Methodist Church, located on Ninth Avenue, has a new pastor who has ties across northwest Alabama and a rich family history.
Mitch Nethery was raised in Beaverton in Lamar County. He is a 1989 graduate of Sulligent High School andgraduated Stillman College in 1999.Across the street from the post office in Beaverton was a barbershop belonging to Nethery’s great-great-grandfather.  Nethery’s first job was cutting grass at his grandfather’s barbershop.
“It had a shower in the back. People used to pay to go take a shower,”  Nethery said.
