LYNN - Joe Bell, who has been working part-time for the Town of Lynn, now has a permanent, full-time job, with all benefits, at the Lynn street and water departments. He was approved for hiring by the town council at their meeting on Monday, Sept. 17. Council members Tommy Chambless and Chris Little abstained from voting, with all others approving.
Bell’s pay will start at $13 per hour for three months, then go to the same pay scale as the other street department employee, according to Mayor Jeff Stokes.
“I think Joey is going to be a big asset to our town,” Stokes stated. “We’ve had him for several months, and I don’t think we could get a better person than Joey.”
In other business, Stokes mentioned the donations to the Lynn Schools have been taken care of, with the money being donated by checks earlier in the day.
A final amount for repairs to the industrial washing machine at fire station two has been given for the amount of $2,314.80. The amount the town has to pay is $1,000, with the insurance covering the rest. Chris Little made a motion to move $1,000 from the fire department savings, and Councilman Earl Gilbert seconded.
The only other thing on the agenda was to approve the purchase of a Lexmark printer for $750 to be used for printing bills at the water department. A motion was made and passed to that effect.
The meeting then adjourned. The next town council meeting will be Monday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. at the old town hall in Lynn.
