HALEYVILLE - Haleyville City Schools has traditionally been known as a progressive school not just in their facilities but in their programs and studies, so the school is literally “full steam ahead” over a new concept, hiring a new coordinator to help in the efforts.
The STEAM program at HCS-- which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics-- has become so successful, that educators entertained the idea of hiring a STEAM coach to work side-by-side with their teachers, to offer a supporting role in helping them coordinate and execute their STEAM activities.
The school found Candy Hicks Garner, who has experience in working with the STEAM program at another area school system.
“It was a great time to take advantage of her expertise, paired with our vision and our dream to improve, and hopefully those things will pair together very nicely and increase our academic excellence,” noted HCS Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland. “This is the direction we want to go.”
