BEAR CREEK - After a one hour executive session, the Bear Creek Town Council voted by majority to name Jimmy Preston as Mayor Pro Tem in the absence of Connie Morrison who resigned earlier that day on Wednesday, October 3.
The town council met in a special called meeting Wednesday, October 3 at the Bobby Bishop Community Center, attended by several residents of the community. Town Attorney Scott Hunt presided over the meeting, instructing the council to first accept Morrison's resignation as mayor. The council did so unanimously.
The council then voted to enter executive session to discuss the mayor pro-tem situation and came out of executive session an hour later. The vote was a majority to name Council Member Jimmy Preston as mayor pro-tem. Abstaining from the vote was Preston, with council members Preston, James Loden, Chris Hyde and Chris Gillum voting in favor. Council member Daniel Green voted no, but the motion carried by majority. The council has 60 days to either allow Preston to continue the remaining two years of Morrison's term or to appoint a full time mayor which, if that is the case, would open Preston's council seat that the council must fill.
