Area schools report card grades from the state released

WINSTON/MARION - The overall news is positive for area schools after the Alabama Department of Education released their annual Alabama State Report Cards for each school system in the state.
The Winston County School System increased its overall letter grade by 10 points from last year, rising from a 76 to an 86 for a B.  Haleyville City Schools maintained its B grade, rising 6 points to an 86 average. Marion County Schools saw an 8-point rise overall from last year, coming up from a 79 C average to an 87 high B average.
Individual schools within the systems scores are as follows:
Addison Elementary:  86 - up 4 points from last year.
Addison High:  88 - up 13 points from last year.
Double Springs Elementary:  77 - up 9 points from last year.
Double Springs Middle:  85 - up 14 points from last year.
Haleyville Elementary:  80 - up 1 point from last year.
Haleyville High:  84 - up 9 points from last year.
Haleyville Middle:  87 - up 10 points from last year.
Lynn Elementary:  87 - up 11 points from last year.
Lynn High:  86 - up 15 points from last year.
Meek Elementary:  85 - up 4 points from last year.
Meek High:  82 - up 12 points from last year.
Phillips Elementary:  86 - up 4 points from last year.
Phillips High:  82 - up 10 points from last year.
Winston County High:  77 - up 3 points from last year.
The goal of the Alabama State Report Card, according to the Alabama Department of Education, is to provide the public with information that is easy to understand, spark conversation, ensure schools are accountable for their data, and ultimately bring about action for the betterment of Alabama public schools. The completed Alabama State Report Card will contain an array of information providing unique characteristics of Alabama schools and systems, including but not limited to:
    •    Academic Achievement
    •    Academic Growth
    •    Graduation Rates
    •    College and Career Ready Data
    •    Chronic Absenteeism
    •    Enrollment by Student Subgroup
