Flooded roads being barricaded

Due to extreme rain and flooding conditions certain roads in the Winston, Marion county  have been barricaded, and motorists are being urged to avoid these areas.

Heavy rain has resulted in a major erosion issue at a deep culvert on County Road 79 in Double Springs, 400 yards from the intersection of CR 25, on Tuesday, Feb. 20,  noted Winston County Commissioner Bobby Everett.  County officials have placed barricades in the area, due to the 60X40 area washed out at the bridge area, Everett said.

Motorists can take CR 79 and loop back onto CR 25, but are being urged to avoid the area of the washout, he stressed.

Also, emergency responders attending a Bear Creek Council meeting Monday night, Feb. 19, had a call to rush out to place barricades at Edge Road because heavy rains had caused the road to flood, noted BC Fire Chief Rob Taylor. The fire department was out in the midst of rainy and stormy conditions checking roads when they came across the flooded road and contacted the street department to place barricades, Taylor said.

A section of Chickakee Road off Airport Road in Haleyville has also been barricaded due to flooding conditions. Emergency responders are also being called out on numerous downed trees due to flooding and stormy weather conditions.
