Long, Williams combine for Lions’ shutout of Sheffield

GULF SHORES -  The Haleyville Lions defeated Sheffield 14-0 on Monday, March 25, in Gulf Shores,  as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Caleb Williams struck out Wilson Schnurer to finish off the game for HHS.
The Lions  secured the victory thanks to 10 runs in the first inning. Scott McAlpine, John Miller Lawson, Ty Black, John Whiteside, Jackson Kennedy, and Blake Bennett powered the big inning with RBIs.
HHS got things moving in the first inning, when McAlpine singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Morgan Long was the winning pitcher for Haleyville. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over three innings, striking out five and walking zero. Williams threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Clayten Terry took the loss for Sheffield. He went one and one-third innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out one and walking zero.
Jadarius Armstead started the game for Sheffield. He went two-thirds of an inning, allowing ten runs on three hits
The Lions tallied seven hits in the game. Ben Lowman and McAlpine all managed multiple hits for Haleyville. McAlpine and Lowman each collected two hits to lead Haleyville. The Lions didn't commit a single error in the field. Black had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
