WASHINGTON - An Amtrak train carrying GOP lawmakers - including Rep. Robert Aderholt and his wife - to a Republican policy retreat in West Virginia struck a garbage truck in rural Virginia Wednesday, Jan. 31. Aderholt, his wife and all of the lawmakers on board the train were not injured, but there is a fatality and one serious injury being reported, according to the Associated Press. The fatality is expected to be someone who was in the garbage truck.
Aderholt put out the following Tweet about the incident this morning:
"I just wanted to send a quick note to let everyone know Caroline and I are fine. We were on the train headed to a Republican planning conference when the train collided with a truck. I’m told one person in the truck has died. Our prayers to that person’s family & any others hurt."
More details as they become available.
