Four RBI day for Whiteside aids in Lions win over Fayette County

John Whiteside gets to first base on a hit for the Lions. Whiteside drove in four RBIs on three hits.

HALEYVILLE - John Whiteside was clutch at the plate with ducks on the pond on Thursday, April 11, driving in four on three hits to lead Haleyville baseball past Fayette County 11-1 on Thursday. Whiteside drove in runs on a single in the second, a single in the third, and a single in the sixth.

Haleyville got things moving in the first inning, when John Miller Lawson drove in one when he doubled.

HHS tallied four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by the Lions was led by Ben Lowman, Whiteside, and Jackson Kennedy, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Lowman earned the victory on the hill for Haleyville. He surrendered one run on three hits over six innings, striking out five.

Colton McCaleb took the loss for Fayette County. He allowed nine hits and seven runs over two and two-thirds innings, walking zero.

HHS totaled 14 hits in the game. Scott McAlpine, Whiteside, Kennedy, Lawson, and Lowman each managed multiple hits. Kennedy, Whiteside, and McAlpine all had three hits to lead the Lions. They didn't commit a single error in the field. Abraham Marchant had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.

Blake Wallace led Fayette County with two hits in two at bats.
