LYNN - Addison Lady Bulldog assistant coach Jeremy Luker received a great birthday present Monday, April 15. The Lady Bulldogs captured the Winston County Softball Tournament championship by defeating Meek in a 5-4 barnburner.
The championship game was played Monday, April 15, at Lynn High School. The game was postponed on Saturday, April 6, due to inclement weather.
Meek took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Alexis Cleghorn’s sacrifice scored Abby Phillips.
The Lady Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the inning when Lexie Luker and Lexie Cunningham scored off a single by leadoff hitter Destiny Walker.
Addison added another run in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 3-1.
The Lady Tigers narrowed the margin to just one in the top of the sixth, when Autumn Peek singled to send Bailee Fincher home from second base.
It was the top of the seventh for the Lady Tigers, still trailing by one when Savannah Smith hit a two-run homer with two outs to give Meek a 4-3 lead. Nikkia Yoshiwara also crossed the plate from first base.
Walker started off the bottom of the inning for Addison and singled to left. Macey Butler flied out to rightfield for the first out. Meek then decided to put Anna Grace Luker on first. Luker took off to second for a steal on the first pitch. Madison Aderholt was thrown out for the second out of the inning. Sam Brannon came up to bat and Meek put her on to load the bases.
Asia Millwood was facing two outs and bases loaded. She had two strikes on her when she slammed one to the outfield to score Walker and Butler and win the championship 5-4 for the Addison Lady Bulldogs.
