GRANT - Haleyville Lions baseball team, currently ranked sixth in the state, was on fire Friday, April 26, defeating Kate Duncan Smith Daughters of American Revolution 3-2 and 12-0 in a two-game sweep at Grant.
Ben Lowman allowed just five hits from the mound for the Lions. Lowman went the entire seven innings. He surrendered two runs on five hits, striking out ten.
In the second inning, Haleyville got their offense started when Lowman grounded out, scoring a run.
Austin Sanderson took the loss for DAR. He allowed five hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Abraham Marchant led Haleyville with two hits in two at bats.
Benjamin Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Kate Duncan Smith DAR in hits.
Brantson Lambert was brilliant on the hill as he threw a no-hitter to lead the Lions past DAR 12-0 in the second game of the series. The game was called in five innings.
Haleyville secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower by HHS was led by John Whiteside, John Miller Lawson, Ben Lowman, Ty Black and Blake Bennett, all driving in runs in the inning.
Haleyville fired up the offense in the first inning, when Lawson singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Lambert earned the win for Haleyville. He went five innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking one.
Justin Stubblefield took the loss for DAR. He lasted three-and-a-third innings, allowing six hits and eight runs while striking out three.
Haleyville totaled nine hits. Lawson and Bennett all managed multiple hits for Haleyville. Bennett and Lawson each collected two hits to lead the offense.
Haleyville (23-6) will host Brooks (21-7) in the quarterfinals Friday, May 3, starting at 5 p.m.
