HALEYVILLE - A program that has been a blessing to countless children and their parents through the years is accepting donations so it can continue to bless others.
The P.A.S.S. Program, which stands for Providing Adolescents School Supplies, has helped give school supplies to nearly 2,000 children attending Haleyville City Schools over the past 12 years. While the program’s name mentions adolescents, supplies are available for all age groups. Housed at Solid Rock Church in Haleyville, the program is helped financially through donations from numerous area churches and businesses. Although the school year has just ended, volunteers with the P.A.S.S. Program are already well underway trying to plan for the 2019-2020 school year, so that no student at Haleyville will go without school supplies.
Program organizers are gratefully accepting donations of the following items:
Copy paper, disinfectant wipes, paper towels, packs and #2 and mechanical pencils, blunt and sharp scissors, hand sanitizer, facial tissue, quart and gallon-size zipper bags, anti-bacterial soap, wide rule loose leaf paper, colored pencils, large and small glue sticks, colored markers, calculators, 3”, 2” and 1” 3-ring binders, plastic pencil cases, black and blue pens, pencil pouches w/zippers, 24-count crayons, 3x5 index cards, 5 and 8-subject tabbed dividers with pockets, dry erase markers, composition books, page protectors, highlighters, tape on dispenser, graph paper, 5-subject notebooks, tri-fold rest mats, Lysol disinfectant spray and backpacks.
Supplies can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays at Solid Rock Church, located off of Newburg Road. Applications will be available for parents in need mid-July. For more information, call 205-269-2497.
