Griffin Lynn (#12) is surrounded by the enemy on a carry Friday night.
LYNN - The Lynn Bears suffered their fifth loss of the season Friday night, Oct. 18, when the South Lamar Stallions trampled over the Bears at David Posey Stadium for a 38-19 win. It was the last home game of the regular season for the Bears.
Lynn started strong and got the first scoreboard light of the night 3:16 into the first quarter, running 66 yards with a complete pass to Chance Majors in the end zone. Their PAT had a good smack for a 7-0 lead. However, the Stallions turned right around on second down with Christopher Sides running past the goal line. Their PAT was no good, leaving it 7-6, Lynn. A fumble in the Stallions’ next downs was recovered without the Bears touching the ball. When it was Lynn’s turn on offense, they suffered a Stallion interception with Sides once again taking it to the Bears’ line, with a good PAT, bumping the Stallions ahead 13-7.
The Stallions secured yet another touchdown in second quarter with a complete pass to the four-yard line and Erick Wilson running for the score. Their PAT was good again, with the score at 20-7. Once the Bears turned their downs back over to the Stallions, Jarrett Bryant received a pass and ran away for yet another touchdown on a 53-yard run. Their PAT was no good this time, leaving the Bears in the dust at 26-7. When the Bears punted on their downs, Bryant picked up the return at their own 15-yard line and ran 85 yards to the Bear’s end zone for the last touchdown of the first half. Their PAT was no good, settling at 32-7.
When the Bears kicked off the second half, they received the ball, only to pass it to the Stallions on a down turnover. It looked like the Stallions were going to turnover the downs as well as penalties pushed them away from the prize, but in a “third and Nauvoo” situation, Wilson decided to rein it all in and trotted 73 yards for the final Stallion touchdown on the night. The PAT was no good with a score of 38-7, South Lamar. The Bears came back with a 68-yard drive for a touchdown at the end of third with Micah Cagle having the honor. Their PAT was no good with a score of 38-13, South Lamar.
The Bears tried one more time and succeeded in getting a touchdown in the last quarter, with a complete pass to Cagle and a two-point conversion no good. It proved not enough, and the Stallions came away with a 38-19 victory.
Lynn will travel to Meek Friday night, then go to Winston County High School Friday, Nov. 1. South Lamar will play Brilliant at home this Friday night.
