NW-SCC to award up to $600 per student this fall in CARES Act funds

PHIL CAMPBELL - Northwest-Shoals Community College President Dr. Glenda Colagross received notification that qualifying students will be able to receive up to $600 per student this fall through Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds.
Eligible students are based on guidelines issued by the U.S. Department of Education. To be eligible, students must have completed the 2020-2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov, be in good financial aid standing with the college and have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Assistant Dean of Student Services Dr. Crystal Reed, students still have time to register for the fall semester and receive CARES funds.
“The college will continue registering for fall classes through Wednesday, August 19,” said Reed. “We have a little time left and we are here to walk any student through the admissions, advising and financial aid process.”
Over $1 million of CARES funds was disbursed by the college in May for students enrolled in the spring that met the eligibility guidelines. CARES funds provide economic relief for students due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students that would like to register to attend either campus or take online courses this fall can register in a virtual format.
