Alabamian to honor local veterans and active duty military in special section

If 2020 has taught us anything, it should have taught us to honor and cherish one another.  It has also taught us what true heroism is, and some of our greatest heroes are our veterans.
The Alabamian is happy to once again be saluting our veterans this year in a special section, which will come out on Veteran’s Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.  The section will containing photos of local residents and/or their loved ones who have served in all branches of our nation’s armed forces - from the Civil War to the present.  Along with the photos, the soldier’s name, rank, branch of service,  war(s) fought in, years of service and, for active duty members of the military, the place where the solider is currently stationed will be included.  There is no charge to submit information and photos.
“We are very pleased to once again present this opportunity to honor the soliders who came before us to build our nation into the wonderful place it is, as well as the members of our military who are currently working hard to protect the freedoms we cherish so dearly,”  Shelly Hess, managing editor of the Alabamian, said.
This will be the third consecutive year that the Alabamian has printed a veterans’ tribute section.  All the photos that have been submitted will be run again.  Those who submitted photos in the past are welcome to trade the photo out for a new photo.  Also, those who have submitted active duty military members are asked to update their information, if possible.  That information can be updated by calling (205) 486-9461 or sending an email to nwanews@centurytel.net.
Photos and information can be submitted numerous ways.  The photos can be brought by the Alabamian, located on Highway 195 in Haleyville, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
“Our staff will be happy to scan the photos and return them to you when you bring them by,”  Hess said.
Photos and information can also be mailed to:
