Agencies work Wednesday night, March 7, to clean up a fuel spill where 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the highway at the intersection of highways 278 and 13.
NATURAL BRIDGE - A fuel spill that brought response from numerous agencies Wedneday night, March 7, to the Natural Bridge area, was brought under control with a special agency called in for clean up. An 18-wheeler cab was piggy backing another 18 wheeler cab around the intersection of highways 278 and 13 around 6 p.m., when the unit being towed broke loose and dropped onto the rear of the towing cab, rupturing two fuel tanks and spilling 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the highway and down an embankment, noted Winston County Emergency Management Director Jimmy Madison. Agencies assisting the EMA at the scene were the Lynn Fire Department, Winston County Sheriff's Office, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and Department of Transportation. The DOT placed sand on the fuel that had spilled, and Price Wrecker, a certified clean up crew, was called in to clean up the spill, Madison said. The Alabama Department of Environmental Management was also notified. Ward's Wrecker Service of Haleyville also towed the cab. The scene was cleared around midnight, authorities said.
