Highway 195 turning lane on hold until 2022

HALEYVILLE - Parents and other motorists looking for congestion relief on Highway 195 in Haleyville at the intersection near the Chevron gas station will be waiting one more year.

Mayor Ken Sunseri announced during the Haleyville City Council meeting Monday, March 15, that the Alabama Department of Transportation had notified the city, letting them know that the bidding process for the turning lane project on Highway 195 will not be completed in time to begin work this June.  Therefore, the project will most likely be on hold until June, 2022.

In other business, the council approved the purchase of a vacant lot in downtown Haleyville that will be transformed into a pocket park in the heart of the downtown area.  The park is expected to include benches, tables and a stage, and should be completed in time for the 9-1-1 Festival in June, Sunseri told the council.
