Haleyville native shares his harrowing escape from Ukraine with HMS students


Haleyville native Mark Posey shares the story of his escape from Ukraine with students at Haleyville Middle School. Many of the students took notes during his program as part of a class project.
HALEYVILLE - Haleyville native Mark Posey can truly say he has faced death, recalling both horrific and heartwarming details of his recent mission to Ukraine that came to a sudden halt when Russia invaded.

$200,000 grant to repair County Road 54

HALEYVILLE - The wheels of progress are turning once again, and the public should see a bridge spanning the gap where a section of County Road 54 collapsed due to aging culverts, thanks to $200,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds.

Four teachers in Winston County receive grants


Teachers Danny Snoddy, Angela McCullar and Cindy Nuss received Alabama Power Foundation Classroom Grants at the Winston Career Academy, Jan. 26. Three teachers in Double Springs and one in Haleyville received Alabama Power Foundation Classroom Grants recently. Danny Snoddy, electrical technology instructor at the Winston Career Academy, received $1000 for the utility lineworker program. Angela McCullar, third grade teacher at Double Springs Elementary, received $1000 for her classroom, as did Casey Wilson, seventh grade special education teacher at Haleyville Middle School. Cindy Nuss, kindergarten teacher at DSES, received $715, which she said was the exact amount she requested.

Annual legislative meet-and-greet will be different

Turkey Take Out this Saturday, Nov. 21

HALEYVILLE - Haleyville City Schools is talking a lot turkey this week in preparation for this Saturday, Nov. 21, when a Turkey Take Out will give a Thanksgiving meal to students in need throughout the school district.

The A team of HMS scholars bowl advances to quarterfinals

HALEYVILLE - The 2019-2020 scholars bowl teams at Haleyville Middle School proved they know their facts at the recent Russellville Middle School Invitational, where all three teams including A, B, and C won matches and the A team advanced to the quarterfinals.

Legislators to conduct public meet and greet tonight at HMS

HALEYVILLE  - Winston County’s delegation in the state legislature will be visiting Haleyville Middle School for a meet and greet tonight.

HALEYVILLE - As a new school year starts for Haleyville City Schools on Thursday, Aug. 8, the community needs to be reminded of parking situations, drop-off locations and schedules, in order to keep the traffic flowing smoothly, especially during the first few days of school.
