SMITH LAKE - Alabama Power says a Facebook post that warns residents to stay out of Smith Lake this summer is fake.

WINSTON COUNTY - Public health officials are rolling out COVID-19 contact tracing programs to help slow the spread of the disease by informing people who have had contact with someone who has tested positive. Of course, scammers are finding nefarious ways to use these efforts for their personal gain.

WINSTON COUNTY - You’ve probably been hearing a lot about contact tracing. It’s the process of identifying people who have come in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, instructing them to quarantine and monitoring their symptoms daily.

PEBBLE - The Pebble Volunteer Fire Department has posted a notice on their Facebook page regarding how they collect fire dues, after reports of someone in the area going door-to-door claiming to be from the department.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Sheriff’s Office will show citizens how to protect themselves from scams and identity theft in an upcoming seminar to be held Tuesday, May 22, at 6 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom of the Winston County Court House.
