Tis the season for thefts, sheriff’s office warns

NAUVOO - The arrest at gunpoint of a Nauvoo man found with three loaded firearms who allegedly tried to pull a gun on law enforcement, is a grim reminder that the holiday season can also bring increased crime.

Nauvoo man pleads guilty to defrauding U.S. Department of Defense

BIRMINGHAM - A Nauvoo resident and enlisted Army Reservist pleaded guilty Tuesday, January 24, to stealing more than $53,000 from the Department of Defense, announced U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Department of Army Criminal Investigation Division, Redstone Resident Unit, Supervisory Special Agent Chase Wilkerson.

Intruder dead after home invasion; second intruder faces robbery charges

NAUVOO - A home invasion occurring at a wood frame residence on County Road 21 in the Poplar Springs area south of Double Springs, has left one of the two intruders dead of gunshot wounds, and the second intruder facing robbery charges.

Found dead after suffering three gunshot wounds was Jason Wayne Smith, 40, of 35 Castle Village Circle, Jasper, according to Winston County Sheriff's Investigator Jacob Eward,

NAUVOO - Two thefts on the same property where a suspicious house fire occurred some time ago have been solved after stolen items were found scattered among several different locations and video surveillance showed a masked individual in the act of committing the thefts.
