HALEYVILLE - Renovation work at the pilot’s lounge area at the Haleyville Municipal Airport is currently being done as just the first step ahead of a major overhaul project coming later, thanks to the approval of an $800,000 grant through the Airport Terminal Program, a branch of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program.

BEAR CREEK - Optimism among Bear Creek town officials and residents that they would finally receive grant funding to repair or resurface deteriorating roads has turned into major disappointment, with the town declined the funding.

ARLEY - An agreement has been reached between the Alabama Department of Transportation and Winston County Commission, approving $2 million in state monies to resurface County Road 77, otherwise known as Helicon Road, from County Road 41 in Arley to County Road 22 in Helicon.

HALEYVILLE - A major trail restoration project from Haleyville City Lake to Rocky Ravine Park is finally moving forward, after at least four years of planning, thanks to a federal $176,576 Recreation Trails Program grant.
The grant, funded through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, will require a $44,000 match from the city, officials said.

WINSTON COUNTY - First responders throughout Winston County have received the long-awaited announcement that much-needed communication upgrades and a new building on the county’s west side to house the new equipment have officially been given the go-ahead, meaning the project should begin soon.
