HALEYVILLE - As another school year winds down, numerous personnel items, including non-renewals, transfers, hirings and resignations, were approved by the Haleyville Board of Education at their April 22 meeting, in preparation for the 2024-2025 school year.
The board approved non-renewals of three Haleyville Elementary teachers - Amber Nichols, Madison Butler and Alisa Reed Autry - each effective May 24.
The following teachers were hired for the new year: Lynsi Heath as middle school 6th grade math teacher and Lauren Hall as elementary teacher, each effective August 1.
“We’re excited about Mrs. Hall returning to HES and Lynsi Heath returning to HMS,” stated Haleyville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland stated. “Both did a great job prior, and we are happy to have them returning.”
Resignations of Jamie White as middle school football coach was approved, effective April 22, as well as Brandy Vickery as middle school STEAM coordinator.
Middle School Principal Bo Wilcoxson commended Vickery on the job she has done as STEAM coordinator the past two years.
“That position takes up a lot of time,” said Wilcoxson. “(Vickery) has a daughter attending the University of South Alabama and a son who is active in sports and other activities.”
The board has not yet made a decision on Vickery’s replacement as middle school STEAM coordinator.
The voluntary transfer of Connie Newell from city schools special education secretary to elementary preschool paraprofessional was approved effective retroactive to December 1, 2023.
The following personnel were put in place for the summer school program:
Jamie Tucker, nurse; Jenni Miller, substitute nurse; Molly Raffel, summer school substitute and Danielle Gable, summer school paraprofessional.
Linda Mize was hired as summer feeding worker for the elementary school summer program.
