Public invited to Looney’s Sunday for read-through of new play

DOUBLE SPRINGS -Brad Bailey, an award-winning playwright from Winston County, has provided his talents behind the script for a play describing Winston County’s history pertaining to the historic Byler Road, with a  preliminary script reading free to the public this Sunday, Aug. 30.
The preliminary performance of “Buffalo Trail to Byler Road” will be at 3 p.m. on the stage at the Dual Destiny indoor theater at the Looney’s Amphitheater and Cultural Complex, located off Highway 278 in the Lakeshore community near Double Springs.
The Alabama State Council on the Arts - which provided a grant for the project -  has a requirement that the preliminary performance of the play be before September 1.  An actual performance date for the play has not been set, Bailey said.
The full-scale production will be around October, organizers said, adding play dates will be announced when they become available.
When the play is performed, there will be one showing at the Dual Destiny Theater, with another performance to be scheduled at the Heart of Haleyville Pocket Park, noted Theresa Snoddy, vice president of the Winston County Arts Council.
The idea of the run-through of the play for the public this Sunday, is to allow people to see how a play is created, Snoddy said.
“We want the audience’s feedback,” Bailey stated. Comment sheets will be provided to everyone attending this Sunday’s run-through, so they can provide any input or suggestions for the play, organizers said.
